An elderly couple withdrew more than $11,000 from a bank and headed to their Northwest Miami-Dade home.

What they didn't know: Two men must have followed and were waiting to attack.

According to police, Mark Peiffer, 88, and Gwendolyn Peiffer, 90, pulled into the garage of their home on the 7000 block of Northwest Fifth Street at about 3:30 p.m. May 9 and were “assaulted and robbed” by two men.

Police say one of the men pushed Gwendolyn Peiffer and took her purse with $11,500 inside.

The man then took off and got in a white minivan, police said.

Detectives later said that the couples' vehicle had a flat tire that was slashed with a sharp onject.
