A man drove himself and his son to Jackson North Hospital after someone opened fire on their older model white Mercedes as they headed north on Interstate 95, just north of Northeast 135th Street on Tuesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The man, who has not been identified, had a bullet lodged in his arm and was taken to Aventura Hospital, said FHP Spokesman Joe Sanchez. His son suffered serious road rash after he jumped out of the moving car to avoid getting hit by bullets, Sanchez said.
Sanchez said the shooting happened at about 1:30 p.m., a time when there are a lot of cars on the road.
“Somebody had to see something,” Sanchez said, adding that troopers are interviewing the father and son and they are cooperating.
As of 9 p.m. Tuesday the only description troopers had was a dark-colored vehicle.
“At this point we don’t know if it was road rage, if they knew them or anything,” Sanchez said.
Anyone with information is asked to Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
