Wow: Plane makes an emergency landing on Tamiami Trail. Both passengers escape safely
After half an hour of flight, a prop plane made an emergency landing on Tamiami Trail on Wednesday afternoon.
The single-piston Cessna 152 landed in Western Miami-Dade, said Miccosukee police chief Roland Padolfi on Twitter shortly after 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
“Fortunately there was no injuries or property damage,” tweeted Padolfi. “The Roadway is completely open at this time.”
According to FlightAware, an online flight tracker, the two-passenger plane took off from Miami Executive Airport (KTMB) just after 3:00 in the afternoon, landing at 3:34.
Local 10 reported that the pilot and one passenger made an emergency landing just west of the Valujet Memorial in the Everglades.
KTMB typically has 200 to 300 arrivals and departures daily, and that plane had already made a flight just after 9 a.m., successfully returning to KTMB about 45 minutes later.
The afternoon flight followed a similar path, heading out west and beginning a return toward KTMB. However, it was cut short.
