A 60-year-old woman died late Friday after being struck by a minivan as she attempted to cross Quail Roost Drive in South Miami-Dade, police said.
Effie Lee Atkins was not at an intersection or a crosswalk at about 8:35 p.m. when she tried to cross west of Southwest 115th Avenue in South Miami Heights. She was struck by the left front corner of the minivan, which was driven by Elijah Bell, 49, of Miami, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol. He was driving west at the time of the crash.
Bell was not injured. Atkins was taken to Kendall Regional Trauma Center, FHP said.
