From Wynwood to Doral to "Please not in Broward," Miami Herald readers weren't short on location ideas for David Beckham's proposed MLS stadium after Miami leaders on Tuesday rejected the soccer superstar's plans to build at the downtown waterfront.
A highly unscientific poll at MiamiHerald.com found the favorite to be Watson Island (11 votes), with several respondents offering the stadium as a replacement for the long-turbulent Island Gardens marina project just approved by the city in early May.
Close behind were Miami Marine Stadium on Virginia Key (10); the former site of the Miami Arena, downtown (8); PortMiami (7);
FIU Stadium area (7); and specific parcels in Wynwood (6) and Overtown (7), with riverside views cited as a major selling point.
