Deadly drama: Security guard shoots barbershop employee; Miami officer shoots security guard

Two men were left dead Sunday at a barbershop when a Miami police officer fatally wounded a security guard who had just shot and killed an employee, police said.

The violent drama played out around 12:30 p.m. at the barbershop at 5325 NE Second Ave. in Little Haiti.

The unidentified officer had responded to a call of a dispute between two men -- a barbers and a security guard.

Police said the barber came outside of the shop to speak with the arriving officer.

As the officer stood between the fighting men and tried to calm them down, the security guard pulled out his weapon and fired at the barbershop employee, killing him.

A witness said the officer drew his weapon, took a step back, ordered the guard to drop his gun and then opened fire on the armed security guard, killing him.

Both men died at the scene. The dispute apparently was over a parking spot. "The security guard flipped his lid," witness Martin Cole told CBS4.

The barber, identified as Gersen Mieses, was unarmed, Cole said.

The officer was not harmed during the altercation.

The names of the victims have not been released.

Javier Ortiz of the Fraternal Order of Police sais this in a statement: The officer "was able to stop the threat and protect the public and other police officers on the scene. The victim who was shot by the suspect is in our prayers. The Miami Police Department officer involved is a hero."

The deaths are still under investigation.
