Part of Palmetto Expressway in Miami-Dade shut down over bomb threat

Authorities have shut down a stretch of the Palmetto Expressway as they investigate a bomb threat made to a Miami Gardens gas station.

Miami-Dade County Police have several units on the scene at 167th Street and Northwest 27th Avenue, checking a suspicious package in an abandoned vehicle, said police spokesman Chief Jose Herrera.

The highway was shut down at about 4:30 p.m. in both directions of travel between 27th and 37th avenues, Miami-Dade police said. South Florida 511 is reporting a major traffic backup in the area.

It was not known how long that stretch of the Palmetto, just west of the Golden Glades interchange, would be closed.
