Overtown Miami shooter on the loose; 2 in hospital

Two men were shot Thursday while they sat in front of an Overtown apartment, according to Miami police.

Late Thursday, police were still searching for the shooter.

The attack happened shortly before 7:45 a.m. at 1525 NW First Pl., where the two young men sat on milk crates in front of an apartment door, police said. A black SUV drove up, parked and an armed man, his face hidden behind a ski mask, jumped out and opened fire, police said.

The flurry of bullets struck both men multiple times. Nobody else was hurt.

The shooter ran back into the SUV, which drove away, police said.

Both men were taken by paramedics to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. They underwent surgery and were in serious condition.

The names of the two men were not released by police.
