Three teams will compete to build and operate a modern marina complex for the city of Miami on Virginia Key.
The current operator of the Rickenbacker Marina, Suntex Marinas, and GCM Contracting Solutions all submitted bids head of of the city’s 2 p.m. Wednesday deadline. Whichever team wins will get the chance to rebuild the Rickenbacker Marina and the city’s Marine Stadium Marina, located along the Rickenbacker Causeway.
Miami administrators hope to select a developer and craft a lease agreement by July in order to seek approval from voters in November.
The competition is an encore of a bid process that tanked last summer amid complaints about the selection process and lack of public input. Suntex and Rickenbacker Marina operator Aabad Melwani, who this time is bidding under a team called Marina Parc, participated in that process. GCM Contracting Solutions is a new entry into the solicitation.
