Traveling out of the United States within eight to 20 days and need an expedited U.S. passport?

Beginning Monday, several temporary locations will open in the Miami area to serve those with urgent travel needs while the Miami Passport Agency remains closed because of water damage. The main office, which processes passport applications from Florida and some other parts of the Southeast, temporarily closed last week, forcing some to travel as far away as Atlanta or New Orleans for expedited service.

Customers who are traveling in seven days or less must still apply either in Atlanta, New Orleans or some other agency, the State Department said.

The location, hours and days of operation of the temporary Miami-area locations will vary. Customers must schedule appointments by calling the National Passport Information Center at 877-487-2778 or 888-874-7793. A customer service representative will assist callers with finding the most convenient location for them.

Customers who previously applied in person at the Miami Passport Agency and have not received their passport can also contact the National Passport Information Center about the status of their application.

Applicants traveling in more than 20 days should use the normal passport application procedures described on State Department’s Passports & International Travel site.
