Across the street, a small crowd of people who live and work in the area gathered at a breakfast counter to watch police investigate.
One man who lives in the area said he heard gunshots early in the morning and came out to see what happened.
“I see someone lying on the ground there and I told the clerk to call 911,” said the man, who did not want to give his name. He said the victim appeared to have been shot in the head.
Outside the mini-mart, a yellow bike lay on its side next to an evidence marker.
