Florida International University on Thursday, April 28, presented its first citywide Lavender Graduation & Recognition Dinner for outstanding students and civic leaders in South Florida’s LGBT community.

“The Lavender Awards are an important part of celebrating the achievements and contributions of dedicated members of our communities, including lesbian, gay bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, asexual individuals and our allies,” according to the graduation program.

Performances at the dinner, held in a Graham Center Ballroom at FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus, include Somnio String Quartet and Miami Gay Men's Chorus.
