Attorney Theodore B. “Ted” Olson, former U.S. solicitor general and nationally known marriage equality advocate, will speak Sunday at Miami Book Fair International.
Olson and co-counsel David Boies recently wrote Redeeming the Dream, which documents how the two attorneys helped fight California’s Proposition 8, a 2008 constitutional amendment that banned same-sex marriage in the state. Federal Judge Vaughn Walker later declared Prop 8 unconstitutional and in 2013 the U.S. Supreme Court allowed Walker’s ruling to stand.
Olson will appear 3 p.m. Sunday at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus. He, Lady Booth Olson and Supreme Court plaintiffs Kirstin Perry and Sandra Stier will discuss the struggle to win the right for lesbian and gay couples to marry.
SAVE Chairman Christian Ulvert will welcome the panel, which is sponsored by the Robert S. Wennett and Mario Cader-Frech Foundation.
