Aqua Foundation’s annual Aqua Girl festival for LBT women begins Wednesday

Miami-based Aqua Foundation this week will host Aqua Girl, a South Beach festival that not only celebrates women, but also supports them in a variety of charities the foundation works with.

Aqua Girl helps raise money used by the foundation to award grants and scholarships to female community leaders, to empower them to pursue their goals.

“When you become a scholar you’re paired with a mentor and go through a leadership course. Being surrounded by the board members and the directors was a wonderful community. It helped me as a person to see all these inspiring women,” said scholarship recipient Haley Zilberberg, 19, who is studying social work at the University of Central Florida.

To fund these philanthropic programs, the Aqua Foundation throws Aqua Girl, one of the biggest parties of the year for LBT women in South Florida. Events this week include:

▪ Chemistry: A Speed Dating Experiment

Get a chance to meet the woman of your dreams at Aqua Girl’s speed dating event. Chemistry will be held from 7-10 p.m. Wednesday at Radio South Beach, 814 First St. Tickets are $25 in advance, $35 at the door and $20 for members.

▪ Sip and Savor Wine and Cheese Reception

This wine and cheese sampling event will be held from 8-11 p.m. Thursday at The Betsy hotel, 1440 Ocean Dr. Tickets are $40 in advance, $45 at the door, and $30 for members.

▪ Traffic Jam

The kickoff dance will be from 10 p.m. Thursday until 4 a.m. Friday at Dream Nightclub, 1532 Washington Ave. All guests will receive a glow necklace when they arrive: Red means she’s taken, yellow means approach with caution and green means go for it.

DJ Citizen Jane and DJ Miss M will perform during the dance event. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door and $10 for members.

▪ Pool Parties

The first pool party of the weekend, Splash, will be hosted by Rose Garcia with music by DJ Miss M and DJ Zehno. Pool party will be held at the National Hotel, 1677 Collins Ave, from noon to 7 p.m. Friday. Event is free with RSVP.

The famous Aqualicious Pool Party will also be held at the National Hotel from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Rose Garcia will host the event with music by DJ Zehno, DJ Tatiana, DJ Miss M, and DJ Citizen Jane, with a special performance by Whistle Girl. Shannon DeFreitas will do live body painting.

Tickets for Aqualicious are $40 in advance, $45 at the door, and $30 for members. Cabanas and poolside seating are available for the event.

The final pool party, Aqua Tea Dance and Pool Party, will be from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at the National Hotel. Rose Garcia will also host the event with music by DJ Zehno, DJ Tatiana and DJ Citizen Jane. General admission is $15.

▪ Temptation Dance Party

This “unforgettable” dance party will feature lights, sounds and visuals along with music by DJ Citizen Jane and DJ Tamara Sky. The party will go on from 10 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday at Grand Central, 697 N Miami Ave.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and $15 for members.
