A pedestrian was killed in Islamorada Sunday night after he was struck by a car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The man, whom troopers are trying to identify, was walking across U.S. 1 at mile marker 74 at 11:10 p.m. when he was struck by a 1998 Ford Explorer driven by Wilder Velazquez, 61, of Homestead.
Alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor, troopers said. The victim, around age 50, might have been homeless.
Since Jan. 1, 19 people have died in traffic incidents in Monroe County.
