A mother and two young children were killed in a house fire in the Florida Keys early Sunday morning.
Robin Ferrer, 46, and her two children Roman and Hazel, ages 7 and 5 respectively, perished in a fire at their house on Ramrod Key.
Ferrer’s 18-year-old son Jacob and 19-year-old daughter Courtney attempted to save their family. Jacob was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center for severe burns but is in recovery. Courtney escaped uninjured.
Monroe County dispatchers received a 911 call at 12:35 a.m. When first responders arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames, said Deputy Becky Herrin, the Sheriff's Office's spokeswoman.
