Two Kendall men face five charges each after, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says, they were caught with 44 speared spiny lobster, including some only a few inches long.
Julio Turino Borroto, 29, and Jesus Molinet-Salinas, 28, told Keys Deputy Wilfredo Guerra they hadn’t caught anything when Guerra inquired as to Saturday’s haul in the waters off mile marker No. 60. They didn’t know that Guerra had been watching them.
According to the deputy, he had seen them swim in more than a few times holding spear guns, then deposit something in the rocks. When Guerra went to their drop area, he claimed he found a red bag with the 44 speared lobsters.
Turino Borroto and Molinet-Salinas were arrested on misdemeanor charges of possession of undersized lobster, possession of lobster over the limit, possession of speared lobster, possession of lobster out of season and having no measuring device while harvesting lobster.
