Prisoner who escaped psychiatric hold found walking on suburban street

A prisoner on psychiatric hold who escaped a state hospital earlier this weekend has been found, police said Sunday morning.

Neighbors spotted Leandro Guymaraes, 32, walking near the intersection of Red Road and Miramar Parkway in Miramar and called 911, Pembroke Pines police said.

Guymaraes, who was under a court-ordered psychiatric hold at South Florida State Hospital, 800 E. Cypress Dr., had jumped a hospital fence at around 5 p.m. Saturday.

Miramar police called Pembroke Pines police, who took Guymaraes, who suffers from schizophrenia, back to the hospital. Guymaraes, whose criminal record already includes arrests for burglary and robbery, will now face charges for escaping a state correctional system, police said.

Police said they do not believe Guymaraes committed any crimes while he was outside the hospital.
