A Saturday morning explosion started a boat fire off Key Biscayne that sent two boaters to the hospital with “burn injuries to their lower extremities,” according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
A call reporting the explosion hit at 11:28 a.m. By the time rescuers arrived to the spot 4 miles off Key Biscayne, a civilian boat had picked up the injured boaters. Those boaters passed the injured on to Miami Beach police marine patrol units. Fire rescue boats arrived to put the blaze out before the boat sank. The cause remains under investigation. Miami Beach police were the first to arrive and transported the victims.
