One rollover crash off Florida’s Turnpike on Monday morning killed a 22-year-old Sunrise man while another rollover crash on Interstate 95 backed up soundbound traffic as the rush hour started.
Jamal Rodney died at the scene of his crash, which occurred at 3:23 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Near the southbound Hollywood Boulevard exit of the turnpike, Rodney’s 2015 BMW i8 left the road for reasons unknown to FHP.
The car hit a sign, then a concrete drainage area and flipped. Rodney, who wasn’t wearing his seat belt, was ejected. The passenger, also not wearing a seat belt, is in critical condition at Hollywood’s Memorial Regional Hospital.
Rodney died owing Broward County courts $1,120 from convictions on five traffic charges over two 2015 incidents, including speeding (76 in a 45), driving without a license and driving with a suspended license).
FHP said no serious injuries came that they’re aware of came out of the I-95 rollover, near the Cypress Creek Road exit.
