Broward Sheriff divers were called in after a car went into a canal in unincorporated Fort Lauderdale.
Sheriff’s deputies launched a search and rescue operation around 6 a.m. Friday after the vehicle plunged into the water near 800 NW 27th Ave.
Deputies went into the water initially. They then requested members of the dive team to perform a more thorough inspection.
Just before 9 a.m. a black Chrysler 300 was pulled from the water.

Family members of the person thought to have been behind the wheel had gathered in anticipation. The broke down as the car was hoisted out of the water. It was empty.
The father of the driver said he’s relieved his son, who is in the hospital, was not inside.
