Hollywood police detectives on Tuesday said the 90-year-old woman who was found dead in her home the day before was killed.

Helen Townsend’s body was discovered in her home at 2842 Filmore St. at about 8:30 a.m Monday.

“Upon receipt of the results of Ms. Townsend’s autopsy, the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled this case a Homicide,’’ Hollywood Police Public Information Officer Meredith Elrich said in a news release Tuesday.

On Monday, police said they were treating Townsend’s death as suspicious.

Alan Beal, the maintenance man at the complex, told Miami Herald news partner CBS4 that he had found Townsend's body inside her apartment.

“I go in there every morning,” Beal told the station. “I do a lot of stuff with her. Basically I’m like her son. I went in there this morning and I see her lying on the floor.”

Elrich said Tuesday that detectives were not releasing details about Townsend's death because of an active investigation. Anyone with information is being asked to call Hollywood Police Department at 954-764-4357 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
