Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a man Thursday night after a fatal shooting in Pompano Beach, authorities said.
Deputies responded to a call reporting shots had been fired around 7:30 p.m. at 220 NW 15th Pl., according to a release from spokeswoman Joy Oglesby. When deputies arrived, they found Trevor Mitchell, 46, who had been shot as he was barbecuing food. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene.
The suspect, later identified as Donel Bostick, 46, fled in a car south on I-95 into Fort Lauderdale, where he crashed near the exit onto Davie Boulevard, Oglesby said. Bostick refused to leave his car when first told to do so and fired a gun, though it appeared the weapon was not aimed at officers, she added. Bostick was eventually taken into custody.
Deputies said Bostick and Mitchell had grown up together but that the motive for the shooting was still unclear. The shooting is under investigation.
