Teenagers speeding in a stolen car violently crashed into a highway off-ramp overnight, killing a 17-year-old boy inside and sending the four other occupants to the hospital, police and news reports said.
The single-car crash, involving a blue 2016 Mazda, happened shortly before midnight Wednesday on the I-95 northbound off-ramp at State Road 84, said Fort Lauderdale police spokeswoman Casey Liening. The car, which had been reported stolen from Palm Beach Gardens, was speeding and failed to make the turn off the ramp in time, Liening said. The vehicle then crashed into a concrete barrier.
Liening said 17-year-old Latroy Martin was declared dead at the scene. The four others were taken to nearby hospitals, though their conditions were not released. Martin’s family members said a 14-year-old cousin also died in the crash, according to NBC 6.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash, Liening said.
