Man dies after crashing his vehicle into tree in Pembroke Pines

A man was killed Saturday afternoon after he drove his vehicle into a median and then a tree in Pembroke Pines, police say. He was not wearing his seat belt.

At around 3:48 p.m., Pembroke Pines police and fire rescue responded to the crash on the 9400 block of Pines Blvd.

Police identified the man as 23-year-old Anthony Harold Augustin, who was driving a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis. Augustin’s driving record includes speeding tickets and a red light violation, but all in 2015.

Augustin’s passenger, 22-year-old Kourtney Rolle, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment.

“For an unknown reason, the vehicle veered to the left, mounted the median and struck a tree. Neither occupant of the vehicle was restrained by a safety belt,” said Pembroke Pines sergeant John Baker.

The incident is still under investigation.
