A 71-year-old man was killed after a Miami police officer driving his car, with lights and sirens on, crashed into two vehicles early Saturday morning, police said.
The officer was responding to a priority call around 1:35 a.m. when he crashed into a black Honda Civic heading west near Southwest Seventh Street and 12th Avenue, Miami police officer Kenia Fallat said in a statement. The officer behind the wheel, who was not named, also crashed into a black Audi that was stopped at the intersection.
The driver of the Honda, Ramon Bueno, was taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition, where he died of his injuries. The driver of the Audi sustained a laceration on his arm, which was treated at the scene, police said. The other occupant of the Audi also sustained minor injuries.
The officer who was driving the car was taken to Mercy Hospital in Coconut Grove for non-life-threatening injuries and was released, the statement said.
