A woman with a suspended license ran away from the scene after crashing her Nissan into a tree, leaving a 6-year-old boy in the backseat as he bled from the head, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Once BSO found 24-year-old Catie Boyer sleeping in a car on Monday in the Broward Health Medical Center parking lot 15 miles away from the crash, she was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident involving a non-serious injury; and neglect of a child without great harm.
Boyer already has a conviction for driving with a suspended license. That came in the same incident that saw her second conviction for misdemeanor driving under the influence, the one in which her blood alcohol level exceeded 0.15 (the legal limit is 0.08). She owes $1,353 in traffic fines, in addition to the $383 she owes from her 2012 possession of a controlled substance conviction.
According to the complaint affidavit, Monday night around 8 p.m., Boyer smashed her 2012 Nissan Altima into a tree at 680 NE 33rd St. in Pompano Beach. In the back seat, the child in Boyer’s care bounced around without a carseat. He later received stitches for his head wound.
Meanwhile, Boyer ran east. The affidavit says Boyer’s sister and her sister’s girlfriend identified her as the driver of the Nissan after police found her in the Broward Health parking lot.
The affidavit doesn’t specify who put the 6-year-old in Boyer’s care or the relationship between the two.
