A 5-year-old girl drowned at a pool party in North Lauderdale Monday afternoon.
The Broward Sheriff's Office identified the young girl as Victoria Brown. She was at a pool party with family and friends in a home in the 7200 block of Southwest Fifth Street. The pool party was part of a church group get-together, according to BSO.
“When the other kids and adults got out of the pool to eat, she wandered back into the pool without being noticed,” said BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter. “She was discovered moments later at the bottom of the pool by an adult.”
According to police, Brown was already unresponsive when North Lauderdale Fire Rescue attempted to resuscitate her. The child was transported to Northwest Medical Center in Margate where she was pronounced dead approximately an hour later —around 6 p.m.
