A Tri-Rail train struck a suicidal man Tuesday morning, according to Hollywood police.
Around 7:30 a.m., police found the body of a middle-age man on the Tri-Rail tracks along Johnson Street, adjacent to Interstate 95’s southbound side. Witnesses told investigators from Hollywood and the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority that the man was standing on the tracks when he was hit by a southbound Tri-Rail train.
Hollywood police investigators ruled the death a suicide. The man has not been identified.
This is at least the fourth fatality involving a Tri-Rail train in the last seven months. In October, a person was struck south of the Fort Lauderdale station. A train killed a woman who stood on the tracks in February. Last month, a man running for a train at the Pompano Beach station slipped under its wheels.
