Police have located the Nissan Murano that was stolen in Margate on Saturday morning with a 2-month-old infant named Jeremiah in the back seat.

The SUV was found abandoned with the engine running near State Road 7 and Prospect Road, about two and a half miles from where it was stolen three hours earlier. The baby was unharmed.

A male suspect stole the vehicle from North Lauderdale Plaza at 995 Rock Island Rd.

The mother drove to the shopping plaza on Saturday morning and stepped out of the car to speak with the manager of a business, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

“The mother and the manager were standing on the sidewalk next to the vehicle as a man walked past them,” BSO reported. “It appears once the man noticed the car engine was on, he ran to the driver’s side and jumped in the vehicle. The woman’s 10-year-old daughter and 2-month-old son were in the back seat. The young girl tried to grab her brother as she rushed out of the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. The suspect drove away.”
