Miami-based Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings is partnering with the Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba Group to better target Chinese customers.
The partnership with Alibaba will allow Norwegian to gain insights into the preferences of Chinese consumers in order to tailor its cruise experience in the Asian region, the company said in a press release Friday. Alibaba, which has nearly a half billion monthly users, is actively used in China to buy local and overseas products, and for lifestyle services including travel, food delivery and social networking.
The two companies will also work to increase awareness in China for cruising.
Norwegian and other cruise lines are increasing their presence in the Chinese market, which is expected to become the biggest cruise market in the next decade. Norwegian Cruise Line’s 3,850-passenger Norwegian Joy will start sailing from Shanghai in June as the first purpose-built ship for Chinese cruisers.
