Daniel Flynn, a breast cancer researcher, has been named vice president of research at Florida Atlantic University. Previously he was associate dean for research at the University of Delaware, College of Health Sciences. His educational background includes a doctorate in virology from North Carolina State University.

Maria Ordoñez-Maloney has been named director of sales at Hyatt South Beach. She most recently was based at Hyatt Place Flushing/LaGuardia Airport. Ordoñez-Maloney graduated with a dual master’s in hotel administration from Universidad Europa de Madrid in Spain and Les Roches International School of Hotel Management in Switzerland.
Akerman has promoted four to partners in its Fort Lauderdale office:
▪ Carolyn Kershner, who has a J.D. from the University of Florida, will focus on tax planning and litigation.
▪ Ashley Sawyer, who also has a J.D. from UF, is now a partner in the Litigation Practice Group.
▪ Andrew Wamsley is a partner in the Real Estate Practice Group. He has a J.D. from Georgetown.
▪ David Hawthorne will focus on litigation. He has a J.D. from the University of Miami.
Stacie Schmerling, a children’s rights lawyer and former child welfare investigator and case worker, has been named partner with Talenfeld Law, based in Fort Lauderdale. Before, she was at Colodny, Fass, Talenfeld, Karlinsky, Abate & Webb, P.A. She has a J.D. from Nova Southeastern University.
David Lyons has been named editor-in-chief of EXECUTIVE South Florida Magazine. He previously was editor-in-chief of the Daily Business Review, and before that, he was a business reporter at the Miami Herald.
Jason Katz has been promoted to vice president at Aztec Group, which he joined in 2012 as an associate. He has a bachelor’s degree from Union College in Schenectady, New York.
John-Marc Clark, an employee of Citrix Systems since 1999, has been promoted to managing director. He leads a team in charge of worldwide enterprise partner sales and system integrator business development.

Additionally, he served as the violent crime and anti-gang coordinator for the office.
Education: He has an undergraduate degree from Columbia and a J.D. from Yale.
