Alfonso Esterripa has been named vice president, branch manager for the Coral Gables branch of U.S. Century Bank. He was most recently a vice president and branch manager at Bank of America.

EDUCATION

Deanna “Dee” Voss has been named dean of undergraduate admissions at Nova Southeastern University. Previously she was at the University of Miami, where she held executive level positions, most recently as associate dean of enrollment management and executive director of admissions. Voss has a bachelor’s degree in international studies from Baldwin-Wallace College in Ohio and a master’s degree in higher education leadership from the University of Miami.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

Michael Lupin has been hired as senior vice president in the Boca Raton institutional sales team of D.A. Davidson & Co., an employee-owned full-service investment firm based in Great Falls, Montana. He’s a graduate of City University of New York.

HEALTHCARE

Elaine Bloom, former Florida state representative, has been named president and chief executive officer of Plaza Health Network, a nonprofit network of rehabilitation and skilled nursing centers in the Miami-Dade county. She served the Florida House of Representatives between 1974-1978, and from 1986-2000. Bloom is a Barnard College graduate.

Monica Mizell and Jean Pierre have been promoted to the executive team of Community Health of South Florida.

▪ Mizell, RN, MSN, MHA, has been named vice president and chief nursing officer. She has been with the company nearly 24 years, most recently as interim vice president of nursing.

▪ Pierre, LCSW, was promoted to vice president for behavior health services. Previously he was quality assurance/quality improvement care coordinator.

HOSPITALITY

Fred Hansen has been named general manager at Sawgrass Grand Hotel in Sunrise. He previously was the executive assistant manager at Hershey Lodge in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Marcy Diaz has been named director of catering at Diplomat Resort & Spa Hollywood, Curio Collection by Hilton. Mostly recently she was senior healthcare representative at Pfizer Inc. in North Carolina. Diaz has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Florida International University.

LAW

David M. Gersten, former Chief Judge in Florida’s Third District Court of Appeal, has joined Gordon & Rees as a partner in the firm’s Miami office. He is a member of the firm’s commercial litigation practice group. Gersten, who served more than three decades on the judiciary and four years in private practice, has a bachelor’s degree and a J.D. from the University of Florida.

REAL ESTATE

Charles Badell has been named managing director-valuation and advisory services at Colliers International in the company’s new Miami office. He was most recently associate director at Integra Realty Services.

Name: Thomas Mersch.

New position: Partner in Kelley Kronenberg’s Fort Lauderdale office.

From: General counsel for Channel IQ, a Chicago-based “Big Data” software provider for more than 300 of the world’s largest manufacturers. He was also the managing director of Channel IQ’s Spanish subsidiary.

Also: Mersch has held positions with a number of firms, formerly serving as an attorney for the Delta Airlines Dream Vacations Program, general counsel and vice president of business development for UCS Inc. (a software company that was eventually acquired by SunGard Data Systems), and as president and founder of an Internet-based business services outsourcing company with more than 300 employees worldwide.

And: Mersch is a founding mentor to Florida Atlantic University’s Tech Runway Accelerator and FAU’s Adams Center for Entrepreneurship. He has advised start-ups and rapidly growing businesses, including the past winner of both the FAU and Enterprise Florida Business Plan Competitions. He serves as a judge for The Cade Innovation Prize competition.

Education: Undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University and his law degree from the University of Mississippi.

Best advice he ever received: Develop mentor relationships early in your career. The advice and guidance that these individuals provide will greatly help you advance in your field. And, once you gain more experience, pay it forward by becoming a mentor to someone else.
