Senior-level hires and promotions for the week of May 8, 2017

JOSÉ MARÍA ‘CHEMA” ODRIOZOLA has been named president of Latin American operations, UPS Americas region.
JOSÉ MARÍA ‘CHEMA” ODRIOZOLA has been named president of Latin American operations, UPS Americas region.


Zachariah P. Zachariah, M.D., has joined the University of Miami Health System as medical director of UHealth Cardiology, Fort Lauderdale. Dr. Zachariah is an internal medicine and cardiology physician. He has been practicing in Florida since 1976 and is on the Florida Board of Medicine, the Florida Council of 100 and the Board of Trustees of Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Zachariah has a medical degree from the Armed Forces Medical College in India and was a resident at St. Joseph Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey. He completed his fellowship in cardiology and cardiac catheterization at the Cleveland Clinic Educational Foundation in Ohio.


At The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach and The Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour:

▪ Susana Vento has been named the market director of sales. She previously was associate director of sales at The Confidante Miami Beach by Hyatt. Vento has two bachelor’s degrees (hotel/lodgings, restaurant/food science) from Florida International University.

▪ Inessa Tsavaris has been named director of travel industry sales. She previously was at Nobu Eden Roc Miami. Tsavaris has a bachelor’s in computer science from St. Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts in Russia.


Katie Ward has been named marketing director of The Brissi Group of EWM Realty International. She previously worked for Luxury Portfolio International, one of the Leading Real Estate Companies of the World, as luxury communication manager.

At Diversified Companies, in the Fort Lauderdale office:

▪ Howard Lefkowitz has been named vice president of leasing. He previously was regional leasing director for Equity One (now Regency Centers). Lefkowitz has a bachelor’s in business from the University of Indiana.

▪ Harry Balsamo has been named director of construction management. He was previously principal project manager at Citrix in Fort Lauderdale. Balsamo has a bachelor’s in economics from the University of Maryland and a master’s in architecture from the University of Miami.


Shawn Marvel has been named senior sales director at Gaea, a manufacturer of Greek olive oil based in Hollywood. He will lead sales in the eastern and central U.S. Previously, he was senior sales manager at Ito En (North America), a green-tea distributor. Marvel has a bachelor’s in English/mass market from Towson University.


Saul Fonseca has been named director of sales at Fort Lauderdale-based Dream Vacations, CruiseOne and Cruises Inc. He most recently was director of sales at Regent and Oceania. Fonseca has an associate’s degree in business administration from Miami Dade College and a bachelor’s in business management from NSU.

Name: José María “Chema” Odriozola

New job: President of Latin American operations, UPS Americas region. He is based in Miami.

From: UPS Country Manager for Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, a position he had held since 2015.

About: Odriozola joined UPS in 1986 as a finance and accounting supervisor in Spain. His career has taken him to San Antonio Texas; the United Kingdom; Germany; and elsewhere in Europe. Odriozola was named lead project manager for UPS’ “Europe Network Planning and Procurement Centralization Project” in 2013 and, in 2014, he was appointed country manager for Switzerland.

Best advice he ever received: Paying attention to details in everything you accomplish will make the difference. Effort and enthusiasm are not good enough if you don’t add leadership and innovation.
