Eugenio Valdés Figueroa, a curator, critic and expert on Latin American and contemporary art, will serve as the new director and chief curator of the downtown Miami-based Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation, founder and president Ella Fontanals-Cisneros announced.
According to a news release from the foundation, Valdés Figueroa most recently worked as the director of art and education of Casa Daros, Daros-Latinoamerica, an art center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which he joined in 2001. From 1990 to 1997, he was the co-curator of the Havana Biennial and a contemporary African art researcher and curator of international contemporary art at the Wifredo Lam Center of Contemporary Art in Havana, Cuba.
He will succeed Jesús Fuenmayor, who has held the position since 2012.
The Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation is dedicated to the exhibition, promotion, and support of Latin American artists. Fontanals-Cisneros, a Cuban-born art collector, philanthropist and entrepreneur, established the foundation in 2002.
