New World Angels, a investment group that funds early-stage companies, announced this week that it has funded the majority of a $1 million Series A offering in Miami-based Clarke Industrial Engineering. Clarke created the patented the energy-saving ShutterValve, which the company says is the first significant innovation in industrial valves in more than 50 years.
NWA has now provided over $2.5 million of equity funding to five Florida companies since the start of the year. Other 2014 investments include Kairos, a facial recognition software company; OB Medical, a developer of a fetal monitoring device; and follow-on investments in Bioceptive, a contraceptive device company, and in Aplicor, an software provider for small and mid-sized businesses.
Founded in 2003, NWA has chapters in South Florida and the Tampa Bay area and is typically a lead or co-investor in transactions of $500,000 to $3 million.
