Calling all hackers: The eMerge Americas Hackathon returns June 10-11 as a way to once again highlight the region’s brightest tech talent and entrepreneurial thinking. The competition’s prizes include cash and a meet and greet with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

At hackathons, participants form teams and come up with prototypes for tech-enabled products or services during a set amount of time, usually 24 hours, and compete for prizes. At this hackathon, they will be judged on factors such as innovation, user experience and implementation. The eMerge hackathon will start at 8 .m. Saturday, June 10, and run through 2 p.m. June 11.

Last year’s event attracted more than 125 coders, including dozens of youth. This year eMerge is partnering with Wyncode, a coding bootcamp in Miami that will host the event at its Wynwood location. This is the fourth year the homegrown technology conference is holding a hackathon in the run-up to the eMerge Americas conference on June 12-13.

The winning teams will receive up to $6,000 in cash and prizes. The VISA Grand prize winner will earn $2,500 in cash, as well as the meet and greet with Wozniak, who is also a keynote speaker at the eMerge Americas conference. All hackathon participants will be awarded a Tech Pass to the eMerge Americas conference.

Registration for the eMerge Americas Hackathon is now open at emergeamericas.com/hackathon.
