Police: Off-duty officer and restaurant patron shot in Fort Lauderdale


An off-duty police officer was shot and another person was killed Thursday evening, police said.

The off-duty officer was a patron at Maquires Hill 16 an Irish Pub and Eatery at 535 Andrews Avenue when an altercation took place, according to the public information officer for Fort Lauderdale Police.

Police said the off-duty officer and another patron were shot. The officer is in critical condition at a local hospital and one person is deceased at the scene, said police.

It is not clear whether the off-duty officer was armed at the time.

Authorities haven’t released information about the officer, but said he’s a 20-year veteran of the force,

The Broward Sheriff’s Office is now the lead on the investigation.
