Carnival: We are no longer pursuing naming rights for South Pointe Park

Carnival Corp. has “walked away” from talks to acquire naming rights for Miami Beach’s South Pointe Park, according to a company spokeswoman.

Carnival, according to city officials, had offered $4 million over 20 years among other incentives to ink a sponsorship deal for the park – a prospect that riled some civic groups.

Assistant City Manager Max Sklar described the talks as being on hiatus after a Wednesday night meeting. But Carnival spokeswoman Jennifer de la Cruz said in an email late Thursday that the company is no longer interested.

“We did take a look at naming rights for the park, but are no longer pursuing it.”
