JULY 2011 HIGHLIGHTS
American Black Film Festival
When: July 6-9
Where: Various theaters and venues in Miami Beach
Founded in 1997, the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) is an annual four-day event that promotes recognition, education, and development of Black film in the international market. The program usually includes narratives, documentaries, features, and shorts – all of which are world premieres. Supporting artists and executives alike, the ABFF offers workshops, panel discussions, and industry seminars. Through these additions to its showcases, the ABFF provides a local and international foundation for its promotion of diversity and acknowledgment within the film industry.
The ABFF brings together about 4,000 film fans, artists, and executives each year. In addition to film, the ABFF partners with corporations to promote their multicultural initiatives, services and products. Through this collaboration, the event opens networking opportunities for newcomers to expand their audience and achieve recognition. The ABFF has become the leading source for urban and African American independent film distribution; it is held each summer in Miami.
The 2011 ABFF begins on Wednesday, July 6 and runs through Saturday, July 9. It will be hosted at the Ritz-Carlton in South Beach (1 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach) and screenings will be held at the Colony (1040 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach) and Miami Beach Cinematheque (512 Espanola Way, Miami Beach) theaters. The closing night gala, which includes an awards ceremony and a tribute, will be held at the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater (1700 Washington Ave., Miami Beach). Passes to attend include an “All Access Pass,” which provides entry to all official festival events, and a “Prestige Pass,” which provides additional access to VIP events. Passes can be purchased at the Box Office page on the ABFF website.
