Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim — a parade of two-pieces, one-pieces and barely-there pieces by some of the world’s top masters of Lycra — starts this Thursday. So we thought we’d celebrate the swimsuit, too, by giving you the scoop on the best boutiques to hit before going beachside. Dive right in, the water’s fine.

Head to South Miami for some swimsuit mix-matching fun at Nikki’s Beach House. Catering to women with one size on top and another on the bottom (thanks to those Hispanic roots), this boutique sells each piece separately, making it easier to find the perfect fit. Pick a solid bandeau top from Vicki Moreinis and pair it with a vibrant graphic bottom by Birdie Jo. Feeling a bit flirtatious this summer? Try on Maaji’s suits complete with girlie ruffles and cheeky bottoms.

While down south, make sure to stop by newbie Jolie for some sexy international beachwear. The ultra-fem boutique boasts a variety of Latin American lines including Colombian Palma Rosa, which offers a tantalizing frilly bikini. Complete your outfit with a pair of ethereal Mystique sandals and a chunky tagua seed necklace.

Coconut Grove authority on style IOS maintains its reputation with an assortment of ultra-glam swimwear and cover-ups. Stand out among the crowd of aviator-wearing scenesters with a flashy stone-embellished swimsuit by Italian import Chio. For a smaller price tag with just as much style, IOS carries comfy tagless suits by Belabunda, retro-inspired Havernhill and metallic bikinis by L*Space. Since long t-shirts are not acceptable cover-ups, try trendy ponchos by Scoop Beach or lightweight floral dresses by Taka.

In Coral Gables, there’s veteran swimwear boutique Curves n Waves. Look past the clutter and find a hefty selection of designer swimsuits in every style, color and size. The Miracle Mile storefront carries favorite lines like local darling Red Carter and earth-tone friendly Blue Man to chic patterned suits by Salinas and teeny-weeny bikinis by Brazilian line Vix.

The hunt for the perfect Miami swimsuit isn’t complete without visiting South Beach. If exotic goddess is what you yearn for, Lincoln Road store Rosa Cha has you (barely) covered. The Brazilian line satisfies its loyal followers with eye-catching trimmings, splashy patterns and dramatic cut-outs. Most alluring is Rosa Cha’s reinvention of the one-piece suit, no longer holding second place to its two-piece sibling.
