Things To Do

Kids: Have fun, stay healthy

The lowdown: “Losing it” can actually be a good thing — especially when it comes to one’s waistline. At Institute for Clinical Exercise (ICE) Youth Wellness Center, children and teens are taught how to take off the excess weight and keep it that way. The afterschool program within Sunny Isles’ Trump International Beach Resort is geared toward 8- to 18-year-olds and combines physical and educational activities designed to maintain lifelong healthy habits.

“It’s just painful to see children who are depressed with weight issues and at the same time are not educated properly on nutrition, training and being positive. When they are in my program, they forget about their weight challenges and put on a great big smile. And that is my favorite part!” says ICE Youth Wellness Center President Joey Eida. The ‘hood: Nestled on the lower pool deck of the Trump International Beach Resort, ICE Youth Wellness Center is in the center of Sunny Isles. The vibe: This ain’t your mother’s generic gym. Classes are held within reach of the beach and the facility boasts a contemporary, modern and fresh feel. The highlights: The 10-week spring session started this week and takes place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Each two-hour class incorporates coaching, personal training, martial arts and nutritional education. “By guiding youth to eat properly and implement an active routine, the 10-week program aims to create lasting lifestyle changes,” Eida adds.Alas, it pays to be the biggest loser.
