Bring out your door knocker earrings, nameplate necklaces and favorite ’90s gear because Crystal Pepsi is back. If you don’t know what this is, then you’re too young! But all of you 70’s and 80’s babies should remember the one-hit wonder that lasted for a hot second and was a complete hot mess.
Crystal Pepsi’s 1993 failure was like the crash and burn of McDonald’s McRib, but worse. It was supposed to be a clear, healthier version of Pepsi and launched with massive fanfare and an over-hyped Superbowl ad, but ended up looking like an Alka-Setzer drink instead.
But I guess since the 90’s are making a comeback — both in music, fashion and pop culture — Pepsi is trying its luck again. If the Dolphins can revive Jay Cutler’s career out of retirement, then anything is possible. So if you missed it the first time around, then here’s your chance to relive the ’90s with the throwback return of Crystal Pepsi. For a limited time beginning Aug. 14 and only on U.S. shelves, Pepsi will release 20-ounce bottles of the nostalgic clear cola.
Just ahead of the limited release: A multi-city Crystal Pepsi Throwback Tour featuring ’90s era artists Busta Rhymes, Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath, and Salt-N-Pepa. Just think baseball, music, and ’90s swag with free shows at baseball stadiums in New York and Phoenix. The final stop of the throwback tour is at Marlins Park when the home team takes on the Colorado Rockies on Aug 13. Salt-N-Pepa will throw the first pitch then headline a free post-game performance at Marlins Park’s West Plaza.
For now, there’s only one way to get free tickets to the concert and that’s by tuning into local iHeartRadio stations Y-100, 93.9 WMIA, and 103.5 The Beat or by visiting iheartradio.com for tickets.
