Peroni Emerging Designers Series showcases local fashion talent for Swim Week

Despite torrential rains, the show still went on at the second annual Peroni Style Emerging Designers Series at Hyde Beach at the SLS Hotel for Miami Beach Swim Week. South Florida designers Kate Broadrick, Daniela Pineda, Kim Nguyen, Olga Andrea, Ana Garcia, Paula Velazquez, Luz Paniagua, Karenn Lopez and Parker Trumble showcased fashions that were inspired by Italian design, to much applause. Although these designers are just beginning their fashion careers, they turned out clothes worthy of any runway.

The judges, which included fashion contributor Annie Vazquez, awarded Kim Nguyen and her label Quyen Dimension best-in-show. She won a trip to New York Fashion Week and will showcase her full line during next year’s Swim Week as part of the next Emerging Designers series event. She calls her style “avant garde, very structural, geometric shapes that create different illusions to the eye.” Nyguen shared with how she created her two looks.

“I was inspired by lines and structures you see on buildings but also looking at the things that have a more sentimental value, like a flower, just to add a bit of a soft feminine look to it. The first dress represents a blooming flower that is free, and as for the second outfit it would be the flower that stands tall waiting to bloom. Both of my dresses are completely binded all around, giving the garments structure,” Nguyen said.

Last year’s Peroni Style Emerging Designers winner Nathalie Kriado showcased her full collection of her designs at Miami Swim Week. Her work featured white lace dresses and separates with floral details that were light and airy; they moved gracefully as the models strutted down the runway. Colors like vibrant ruby, deep indigo and lemongrass green provided elegant pops of color for fresh takes on eveningwear. A favorite was the white and royal blue floral prints used in dresses and skirts.
