Bring on the long weekend – three glorious days of eating, drinking and vegging out. A few of our favorite events around town…

Kick off the weekend with a visit to Espanola Way’s brand new Konexpress. We thank Brazil for our waxes, our jeans, our drinks and now our sushi. The Brazilian import opens shop today (Sept 4).  The counter-top/to-go spot is devoted to a Brazilian/Japanese fusion handroll. Cones come cold, hot (tempura), simple (just rice, chives & sesame seeds) and complete (rice, cream cheese, chives, crispy rice & sesame seeds). Sunday, head to Aventura’s Fairmont Turnberry Isle (Sept 6) for the annual Summer Sand Bake. Nine celebrated chefs, including reps from Bourbon Steak, Chef Allen’s, Escopazzo and Johnny V Las Olas, will be wining and dining at this “Florida tapas-style affair” presented by the South Florida chapter of the American Institute of Wine & Food. All that is an elaborate way of saying – al fresco gourmet BBQ with summer wines & tropical drinks aplenty. All proceeds are contributed toward scholarships for culinary students across South Florida.

Monday, celebrate a day off from the office with a three martini lunch – because you can! We’re thinking Miami Spice indulgence. Among our top picks for lunch – Ago at the Shore Club (linger after the meal poolside), La Marea at the Tides, Sardinia (neighborhood favorite), Sra Martinez (a noontime tapa does a body good) and The River Oyster Bar (waterfront cocktails!).
