September is seeing at least three new local openings – are these new spots worth a trip? You tell us…
- Eclectic is the word at Urbanite Bistro. The new downtown outpost steps from the Arsht Center blends the European bistro concept with Floridian flare – think Moroccan lamb sliders, Florida lobster mousse (pictured) and miso-orange glazed roasted tofu. Extra bonus: the menu features 25 domestic & European craft beers and over 30 wines by the glass.
- La Baguette could easily be mistaken for the downtown outpost of Le Sandwicherie (the two are unrelated). The menu boasts salads, sandwiches, smoothies, crusty baguettes, flaky croissants, even French pickles – all available 24/7. Grab an outdoor chair in the morning for a piping hot café con leche or roll in at 3am for late-night mozzarella (never a bad thing).
- Cheap pizza never gets old. Beverly Hills almum Stanley Schoenblatt and Le Cordon Bleu grad Miguel Bermudez are throwing their slices into the ring at brand-new Gables Pizza & Salad. The “recession-proof” concept features two slices of pizza and a soda for $4.99 and salads starting at $4.99.
