A night out in South Beach commonly evokes the chaos portrayed in the beloved film Pulp Fiction. The storyline of the ‘90s cult classic is simply a roller coaster and requires the skill of one man to regain control. “I’m Winston Wolfe. I solve problems.” This is the notorious line and the inspiration for the newest bar/lounge to open this summer.
Mister Wolfe, a pop-up by local nightlife authorities Max Pierre and Erik Yehezkel, features 40 seats in the lounge and an open-space bar to encourage dancing in the former Bond Street location in the Townhouse hotel.
Expect the culinary skills of Nuno Grullon, owner of Ironside Café and creator of the first all organic menu at Metro Organic Bistro, to accompany cocktails for $13 with fresh, local and seasonal ingredients by head bartender Peter Edan, formerly of Cafeina. The menu is all small bites for socializing without fear. Highlights include: Local Fresh Mozzerella with sun-dried tomato jam and micro basil served on crostini, Shitaki Mushroom Mini-burger, and multiple skewers with grass-fed beef, free range chicken and wild shrimp. Pierre has made it his mission to contribute to the city’s evolution with projects like his late art gallery (AE District), menswear line (Public School), and DJ management and booking agency (AE Collective), which brings legendary acts like Maseo of De La Soul to Miami regularly. He says Miami needs a venue like Mister Wolfe. In fact, he needs it and says he’d “rather do something about it than sit around and complain.”
“The Wolfe character and the idea of solving problems was the starting point for the name and that eventually led us to think about multiple personalities controlling a person’s behavior,” said Pierre. “We can all relate, even if it’s as small as being health conscious and exercising by day, but then partying at night. This is something most of us do.”
Mr. Wolfe is a character who embodied this idea yet was comfortable with himself.
“Something is great about that. We can still work on solving a problem even if we’re part of the problem,” said Pierre.
As you contemplate your existence, order the “Split Personality,” a stimulating combination of vodka, fresh lemon, grapefruit, Campari and Champagne. There are seven additional drinks on the list, featuring tequila, rum, and gin as base spirits along with bubbles and some spice. Edan says he kept his list of ingredients simple to ensure a nice balance. His ice, a major indicator of quality in cocktail culture, is triple-filtered and tested before use. Mister Wolfe officially opens tonight (Tuesday, July 2) and the pack master himself will be celebrating the opening and his birthday all weekend.
