Major Lazer – the trio made up of producer extraordinaire Diplo plus Trinidadian DJ/producer Jillionaire and MC/DJ Washly Fire – is setting us up for a great summer. The group had a majorly DL party in Miami last Friday, a private concert to debut their new single “Front of the Line,” plus to show off their new collaboration with Bacardi, a limited edition rum.
But the event, which took place at Viriginia Key Beach, showcased another collaboration Major Lazer has been cooking up as well. South Florida songstress Camila Cabello, the former Fifth Harmony singer who was most recently seen channeling an Aztec princess in her performance at the Billboard Awards, popped on stage to perform “Know No Better.”

In an interview with Fuse at the event, producer Diplo, whose family is from Florida, admitted he had never even heard of Cabello when they first started collaborating last year: “I didn’t know she was in Fifth Harmony when we met her! She’s from Miami, too. Me and Walshy were at the studio and she came to meet us. She was playing a song she wrote and I really honestly didn’t know where she came from.”
Walshy Fire also told Fuse that working with the “Crying in the Club” singer was easy. “She’s actually super open-minded about stuff so it’s not difficult to work with someone like her.”
At the “Sound of Rum” series, the trio also announced their their album, “Music is the Weapon” will be dropping soon. The party included island-themed pop-up restaurants including Trinidadian restaurant Pearl’s, Jamaican grub from Truck Stop, Haitian food from Chef Creole, and Puerto Rico’s La Factoria, in addition to island-inspired cocktails.
Major Lazer’s rum is available starting in June for a limited time.
