Matthew McConaughey has had some big success in his time: his Oscar-winning role in “The Dallas Buyers Club.” His role in Christopher Nolan’s space odyssey “Interstellar.” His memorable turn in HBO’s first season of “True Detective.”
His latest movie, though, was a flop: the Stephen King adaptation “The Dark Tower” with Idris Elba.
Maybe a more upbeat script will get him back on track – like “The Beach Bum,” written and directed by Harmony Korine of the not-so-sunny 1995 coming of age movie “Kids.” And guess where preproduction of The Beach Bum is taking place? Yup, right here in “they don’t make movies here anymore” Miami.
Pre-production starts on Sept. 2, with 60 crew members arriving early next week. The whole thing is scheduled to end in Miami in mid December. That’s a long time for McConaughey to play his bongos.
“They’re keeping it very secretive,” says our cinematic snitch, so there’s no word on who else we may expect to see in town. All we know is this: “The Beach Bum” follows the hilarious misadventures of Moondog, a rebellious and lovable rogue who lives life large, according to a statement.
Can’t wait to welcome Moondog to Miami.
