Take a holiday… from paying taxes, that is. Tax-free shopping on qualifying items throughout the entire Sunshine State begins Friday, Aug. 4 and ends Sunday, Aug. 6.

Shoppers can take advantage of tax breaks (yay!) on back-to-school goodies. No Florida sales tax or local option tax will be collected on the purchase of the following:

  • Clothing, footwear, certain accessories selling for $60 or less per item
  • Certain school supplies selling for $15 or less per item such as binders, calculators, tape, colored pencils, crayons, construction paper, lunch boxes, notebook filler paper, poster paper and scissors. Hello, snazzy new Trapper Keeper.
  • Personal computers and certain accessories, selling for $750 or less per item, such as laptops and tablets; data storage, such as jump, flash and thumb drives; e-book readers; and printers and headphones when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use. #Blessed

In celebration of tax-free shopping weekend, malls are offering extended hours because  America. Here’s that breakdown for ya…

Extended Hours at The Falls: Friday, Aug. 4: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Extended Hours at Dadeland Mall: Friday, Aug. 4: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Extended Hours at Miami International Mall: Friday, Aug. 4: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Extended Hours at Sawgrass Mills: Friday, Aug. 4: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Oh, and expect swag galore. For example, Sawgrass Mills plans to kick off the holiday by giving $25 gift cards to the first 100 early morning shoppers on Aug. 4 for even greater savings on top of the 6% tax savings on clothing, shoes, school supplies and computers. Over at The Falls, peeps who shop and spend more than $300 in same-day purchases will receive a complimentary homemade Gyoza appetizer. Yum!

There’s a feel-good component, too. Dadeland Mall, The Falls and Miami International Mall will be hosting back-to-school supply drives throughout the month of August to help those in need. So bring in those number two pencils, Crayolas and more.

Talk about a win-win.
