Take a holiday… from paying taxes, that is. Tax-free shopping on qualifying items throughout the entire Sunshine State begins Friday, Aug. 4 and ends Sunday, Aug. 6.
Shoppers can take advantage of tax breaks (yay!) on back-to-school goodies. No Florida sales tax or local option tax will be collected on the purchase of the following:
- Clothing, footwear, certain accessories selling for $60 or less per item
- Certain school supplies selling for $15 or less per item such as binders, calculators, tape, colored pencils, crayons, construction paper, lunch boxes, notebook filler paper, poster paper and scissors. Hello, snazzy new Trapper Keeper.
- Personal computers and certain accessories, selling for $750 or less per item, such as laptops and tablets; data storage, such as jump, flash and thumb drives; e-book readers; and printers and headphones when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use. #Blessed

Oh, and expect swag galore. For example, Sawgrass Mills plans to kick off the holiday by giving $25 gift cards to the first 100 early morning shoppers on Aug. 4 for even greater savings on top of the 6% tax savings on clothing, shoes, school supplies and computers. Over at The Falls, peeps who shop and spend more than $300 in same-day purchases will receive a complimentary homemade Gyoza appetizer. Yum!
There’s a feel-good component, too. Dadeland Mall, The Falls and Miami International Mall will be hosting back-to-school supply drives throughout the month of August to help those in need. So bring in those number two pencils, Crayolas and more.
Talk about a win-win.
